What are benefits from this pledge?
We expect that the organizations subscribing to this Manifesto voluntarily will have a much stronger adherence to its impact.
We know that companies that have a stated purpose and clearly mapped their stakeholders have higher levels of engagement, low turnover and better financial results as we shared before from the book Conscious Capitalism Field Guide.
Different than compliance protocols that are terms dictated from the outside world with a generic perspective – one size fits all, we want to take this public commitment to the next level.
We invite you and your organization to commit to one or more practices in the five business areas proposed by the first edition of the Conscious Business Manifesto.
We believe that this commitment can create additional values such as:
-
It can increase your business representational.
-
It can boost customer loyalty
-
It can increase supplied dedication.
-
It can contribute to talent attraction and retention.
-
It can improve relationship with communities and reduce environmental tensions.
-
It will strengthen your business ecosystem with purpose alignment.
-
It can attract new investors
-
It can differentiate your organization in access to new markets, credits and other benefits.
Your pledge to this Manifesto will be a discovery journey. Your practices and experience will contribute to strengthen your business ecosystem.
The ultimate intention is that somehow, those signing up for the challenge have a moment of epiphany, have a “Click©” (C- cause, L- leadership, I-interdependence, C-culture and K-value) and start the journey to make your business more conscious to improve your chances of being in operation 10 or 20 years from now.
What do I do next?
The next step is to clearly understand the 3 levels of commitment and its implications for your organization.
By signing the Conscious Business Manifesto it will be expected that your organization:
-
Publishes its Evolutionary Purpose: the reason why your organization exists, the North Star guiding your business decisions, investments, and strategy.
-
Publish your Interdependency Map: identify your key stakeholders and how you will interact, communicate, and listen to each one of them.
-
Adopt at least one practice of the five business areas tracked by the Conscious Business Manifesto: Corporate Governance, Labor Practices, Supplier Relationship, Environmental Practices and Community Contribution.
Timetable: you should have these 3 commitments implemented within 12 months from signing the Conscious Business Manifesto
Continuous Improvement: We invite you to add every year additional practices from the business areas and also submit your practices to be shared with other organizations. *
Reporting: The pledge to the Manifesto is to voluntarily report on your commitments, benefits, impact and practices an annual basis, as part of the Balance Sheet and Income Statement.
As the ultimate challenge for those in the conscious business journey, it is to include these commitments in your Company’s Articles of Incorporation
*Note: Practices should be core business related and not examples of the other compliance protocols.
What are the subscriber’s duties?
The leaders and their organization that pledge for the Conscious Business Manifesto, we, the conscious business community and other subscribers, expect to see the 3 commitments (i) publicly stated evolutionary purpose, (ii) publicly shared interdependency map, and (iii) one practice for each one of the five business areas monitored, implemented within 12 months’ time frame and the adopted practices being reported annually on the annual financial results report.
Ultimately the goal is to see all these commitments included in the Articles of Incorporation of the company and one more practice being adopted every year as a path to improve business consciousness.
